June 1st Post

Our Epic Foolishness: I believe we don't act when we think. For example: When you start a fight which you know you can't win. We as citizens shouldn't be causing these problems. We should be carefully thinking these plans out. Instead, we go ahead with it anyway without any caution. Therefore, We have to thoroughly think of a solution. Now instead of wasting all this extra on a solution. We should have taken the time to throughly think out and properly execute the plan. A problem only starts when heads don't come together with a solution.

May 20 Oil Spill

In summary, the Obama administration didn't look at the consequences of offshore sea drilling and how it can cause damage. Sadly it has caused damage as animals which come in contact with this won't be able to perform their natural abilities and the oil is very thick to get off the animal's body. In Conclusion, I don't support this because there was a warning probably said a couple of months before the catastrophe but someone ignored it. Therefore I am not in support.

1.) I say the first video was most effective because one it shows what can happen visually and listening and we all know the deadly results it can have if we don't take that extra 5 seconds to click it.
2.) I will making a PSA

April 6 Do Now

An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity was said by Martin Luther King Jr. By Martin Luther King Jr, a civil rights activist, saying made the statement a KO blow to society. This statement is for us humans to understand that no-one is perfect yet we are all created equal.

April 5 Do Now

Be the change you wish to see in the world. This statement is saying if you wish to see change you must start with yourself. As humans we are at times blind to what we say we hate and at times we haves our eyes wide open as we commit that hatred act which we complain about. But to start change it must start with thyself to truly understand the value of life. Afterwards we must apply that to ourself in the future to truly see and later understand change. I guess it is almost like a domino effect. One good task creates two good tasks and then into 4, etc... But the point is you can't just sit down and wish to a shooting star what you want to change. You have to take a stand and be a leader to start a change if not then the story will be repeated.

Magnet Schools In Philadelphia

I believe if this plan falls through, Ackerman just made the Public School system more easier and also can be with a few flaws. I believe someone who failed major subjects as a requirement to get into that high school will be disastrous. I disagree with this plan as it would discourage some honor-role students at their good grades and make them feel all the work they did was all for nothing. This plan would not help the present or the past, it will only help the future.

Haiti

My reaction to this video is heartbreaking. No-one deserves to go through this much pain and suffering in very little time. This is probably the worst natural disaster since Hurricane Katrina and New Orleans is still trying to recover. Haiti is now entering Step 1 of the long-term healing process, by first making sure if they're love ones are either dead or alive. After that is the rebuilding process which will take many years and they'll need help. I believe Philadephia is doing a great job in the wake of Haiti because everywhere I've been at or going there is an organization getting ready to help Haiti by asking the public for money. I believe it is a great step forward but to better improve on this, I believe there should be a city-wide fundraising process. Overall, though I've been hearing emotional stories about Haiti where some are good and some are bad, and right now Haiti is going to through pain & sorrow and the US is helping them and their quick response to this natural disaster shows how much they care about a country outside the USA

My current school year

With the month of January 2010, I feel now more relieved and excited about the rest of the year. 1.) is because NHD is now over. 2.) My classes are more easier for me as Biology was a subject I struggled in. But now my classes will be more easier for me. The first half of the school year was rough, but I know the 2nd half will be as better. Right now I'm currently happy here @ CHS

Beyond The Line (Mr. Romero)

If Huck Finn lived in today's modern world, you think he can adjust to our current life living standards, if he was given a chance?

If Huckleberry Finn lived right here, right now, at this very moment, I believe Huck Finn can change with some guidance. With the Guidance Huck Finn will know right from wrong, good from bad, and saint from sinner. So give Huck Finn a chance, I mean give him a chance he is human as we are today.

First guidance is key for Huck Finn for adjusting to our modern day living, due to the fact that if you lived in the 1700s and was frozen for 308 years. After you have to adjust to the world if not then you will die? So I believe If Huck Finn was given a chance and guided by the right person then he can definitely adjust.

In Conclusion Huck Finn can live right here, right now, at this very moment because he is an intelligent kid, and with the help from a trusty adult Huck Finn will be successful

Moyers, Bill. "Jackie Robinson." America's story from America's library.
April 24, 2000
http://www.americaslibrary.gov/cgi-bin/page.cgi/jp/bball/jackie_1

This article states that Jackie Robinson, became an important role model in history. In 1945, Jackie Robinson broke Major League baseball's color barrier. Jackie Robinson signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers, now known as the Los Angeles Dodgers. During this period in time, Jackie brought controversy to the game because if the color of his skin. But Brooklyn Dodgers GM Branch Rickey knew Jackie was a strong individual, able to defend himself; ignore all bias and racist insults from a hostile crowd.

This article states many primary sources, because it states Robinson's career in the Majors and make you feel like you were Jackie Robinson. It also states how Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier, and who spurred his popularity in Baseball. Now I must know what made him want to play baseball, even after facing bias comments.

4 Questions

Q: What events cold of happen, if Roger didn't intercept any problems with the gang?
A: Then Roger would of just went to the store. Then Roger would purchase the groceries without coming in contact with any setbacks. Without any of the setbacks and detours Roger encountered, then he would of never knew how to defend himself, and win the rights to the streets of Memphis.

Q: Was Richard's mother a little to harsh to her son?
A: I think Richard's mother was a little to harsh. If you were eight years old, and being sent to the store by your mother, and you encounter a gang that beat you up and stole your money. Why would you even try to make an attempt again? I think the mother should of said "Richard I know you are in a confused and scared state of mind because of my behavior, but tonight son you are going to become the man of the house, by fighting off the numbers game and coming home as a winner and not a loser."

Q: How was "The night I won the rights to the streets of Memphis" similar to the story "The use of Force"?
A: They were similar because there are two children probably under the age of 10 still in the learning process of how life works. Children at these young age should just act like kids and that is how the world should work. Children are suppose to have a fun leisure life, and not endure any suffering or pain at a young age.

Q: What did other possible outcomes could have occur, if Roger had a friend walking with him, to the store?
A: The most likely possible outcome that could of happen is that the first time they walk by they have a staredown. Then the 2nd time, they exchange words walking back home. Then the 3rd time they would brawl in the streets no matter how many people were in the gang.

10 Questions

Q: Who told Richard to go the store?
A: Richard's mother.

Q: What did Richard's mother tell Richard to buy?
A: She told Richard to buy a these items at the store.

Q: Who was going to the store to buy groceries?
A: Richard was sent to the store.

Q: What weapon did Richard's mother hand him, when he was jumped the second time?
A: A long wooden stick.

Q: When Richard won the rights to the streets, where did all the events occur?
A: This all happened in Memphis.

Q: When did Richard win the right to the streets of Memphis?
A: During the late night hours.

Q: Did Richard use put to use the wooden stick he was given by his Mother?
A: Yes he did. He used it to as a weapon so that he can protect his respect, reputation, and dignity.

Q: How many attempts did it take for Richard to reach the store?
A: Roger had intercepted detours when going to the store, the 1st and 2nd time. Then the third time was a charm because he finally reached the store.

Q: Who assaulted Roger time and time again when walked by?
A: The gang members that lived in Memphis.

Q: After Roger attacked the gang, who came out and confronted Roger, for his sinister actions?
A: The gang member's parents.

Despite the racial abuse, particularly at away games, Robinson had an outstanding start with the Royals, leading the International League with a .349 batting average and .985 fielding percentage. His excellent year led to a promotion to the Dodgers, with his debut game on April 15, 1947, marking the first time an African-American athlete played in the major leagues. The harassment did not end, however, most notably by the Philadelphia Phyllis and their manager Ben Chapman. Many players on opposing teams threatened not to play against the Dodgers. Even his own teammates threatened to sit out. But Dodgers manager Leo Durocher informed them that he would sooner trade them than Robinson, setting the tone for the rest of Robinson's career with the team.

Primary source because it has the same information as my other source but this has a little more.

The intended audience is everyone because we are created equal and it doesn't matter what color your skin is.

Thank you M'am

Mr. Romero grade me on transitions and details.

It was a dark cold wintry night in Harlem, New York. The temperature was a little under thirty degrees with a possibility of snow showers. Then there were two people that became really close friends. Sometimes even as close as mother & son. Their names are Roger and Luella Bates Washington Jones. These characters have emotions just like us. They also endure conflicts we also come in contact with.

First & foremost, my favorite characters is Luella Bated Washington Jones. Mrs. Jones just like every other person getting caught up in their work schedule doing probably some overtime or finishing up late work. What Mrs. Jones doesn't know is there is a boy named Roger running from behind to snatch her purse. Swoosh! There goes Roger with Mrs. Jones's purse. Then right after Roger stole the purse he lost his balance. He lost his balance because of all the miscellaneous items held in the purse he attempted to steal. Mrs. Jones eventually caught up to Roger and put him in a half-nelson. Mrs. Jones asked the boy “what is your name?” The boy responded “Roger.” Ms. Jones then asks Roger “ If I let you free will you run?” Roger responded “Yes M'am.” Mrs. Jones then dragged Roger down the street where people are watching. After Mrs. Jones led Roger into her home, she interrogated Roger with a series of questions. After hearing a few of Roger's responses, Mrs. Jones knew or had a impression that Roger is experiencing problems that can't be solved. Mrs. Jones then explained to Roger that she was also Roger's age. Mrs. Jones knew some problems that Roger is facing. She later proclaimed to Roger that “I couldn't always get whatever I wanted.” Roger thought Mrs. Jones was going to say “I did whatever I must do to receive what I deserved.” Then right here Roger learns a lesson that he will never ever forget. Roger sat the dinner table with Mrs. Jones to eat a well-cooked meal with Mrs. Jones. There were points in time where Roger didn't trust Mrs. Jones. After Roger finished eating it was almost midnight. Mrs. Jones was very exhausted from work. Mrs. Jones walked Roger down the steps so he can go back home. Right before Roger left Mrs. Jones gave Roger ten dollars. Roger wanted to say more then “thank you” to Mrs. Jones. But before he could of even said anything the door shut on him.

Secondly, Roger is an average kid that no one understands. Roger's mother & father are never home to spend quality time with Roger. So Roger roams the streets of Harlem, New York trying to fit in society. Then one day Roger believes blue suede shoes will help him fit into society. So late one night Roger attempted to steal Mrs. Jones's purse. But it was so heavy it caused him to lose his footing. Then Roger met Mrs. Jones. This then made Roger feel guilty about his evil deeds. Then Roger was inside Mrs. Jones household. Mrs. Jones asked Roger why he lives the thug life. Roger explains to Mrs. Jones that “he lives a hard life where his parents are never home to make him dinner, buy fancy items, or to take care of himself. In Mrs. Jones home Roger received three sacraments in less then an hour. Mrs. Jones made Roger was his face which is Baptism. Then he received forgiveness from Mrs. Jones which is Reconciliation. Last but not least he received the Eucharist (bread) at the dinner table. Then after dinner Roger was lead outside by Mrs. Jones so he can go home. Right before Roger left he was given ten dollars by Mrs. Jones. Roger wanted to say more then “thank you” to Mrs. Jones. But before he could of even said anything the door shut on him.

In comparison, Mrs. Jones and Roger become mother & son because of the love and care they show for one another. Such as Mrs. Jones giving him dinner and cleaning his face. Roger feels that Mrs. Jones can be his long lost mother because of all the caring things Mrs. Jones did for Roger.

In conclusion Roger was fighting himself and society. Roger is all by himself in Harlem and people aren't accepting him for who he really is. So what should be learned is that to reach your goal only you can complete your goal with hard work and giving up your own time. Then with all these materials in your possessions then anything you work on can be completed. So don't try to take the easy way out. If you do then you will just be fighting even more problems then before.

1.) Howard, Patrick "JackieRobinson" May 15, 2003.

2.) In 1919 Jackie Roosevelt Washington was born in Cairo, Georgia. Jackie along with his brothers and sisters was raised single-handedly by his mother. With Jackie growing up in a large single-parent family, Jackie excelled early at all sports and learned to make his own way in life. In 1947, Jackie Robinson, broke Major League Baseball's color barrier. Major League Baseball has not had an African-American player since 1889, when baseball became segregated. The first time Jackie put on a Brooklyn Dodger uniform, he pioneered the integration of professional athletics in America. With Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier in America's Pasttime he courageously challenged the deeply rooted custom of racial segregation in both the North and the South.

3a.) This article was helpful for me because now I have a better understanding of Jackie Robinson..

3b.) This to me is a primary force because of the information they give which is basic outline.

3c.) The intended audience is African Americans, to show that we all equal and no is different in anyway.

3d.) The background of the author is african american.

NHD 2009

For my National History Day project I have chosen Jackie Robinson. The Reason why I picked Jackie Robinson is because of his pride. Jackie Robinson was raised by his mother and siblings. His father eventually left him. Jackie was the youngest out of his brothers and sisters. Before Jackie Robinson became a famous baseball player. He endured predujice, racist, and biased comments from other non-black familes on his block. After Jackie and his family moved to California. His family was the only black family on their block. Even though Jackie and his family encountered this racist comments. It only strengthed their bond. Jackie entered the world of sports at a young age while growing up with a large family. Then you wouldn't see black baseball players in the sport today or from the past. Such as Hank Aaron, Barry Bonds, Ken Griffey jr., and Ryan Howard. There are more black baseball players. The point is that without Jackie Robinson some future baseball players or current baseball players wouldn't be who they are today without Jackie Robinson. For this week's research i will be using (http://www.jackierobinson.com/).

Why I will graduate in 2012?

Mr. Romero please grade me on intro/conclusion & voice.

It was a nice evening to be roaming Philadelphia streets on August 12, 2008. The temperature was a comfortable sixty degrees. While people were enjoying the comfortable and not muggy weather. I was sleeping. I started dreaming probably near 5:00 A.M. There I am working at Domino's pizza. At 5:25 all I hear from a distance “Nick you got five minutes.” Next thing I know I hear “Nick it is 5:30 time to go.” When I woke up at 5:30 A.M, I learned it was only a dream.

Ahh! I can see my future now. I am on the top again. I have finally graduated from high school. My family, cousins, friends, and others I know applauding me from graduating Constitution High School. There is only one problem with that statement. I am not graduating until 2012. That is another three years from now.

First of all it can and will happen in three more years. With good education, and smart decisions that effects the outcome. The reason why I am receiving good education is because of my parents. My parents probably went through hell, to find a great high school for me to attend. The high school I wanted to attend was Constitution High School. Today the high school I am attending Constitution High School.

Additionally with education you must possess knowledge of the subject. Without knowledge how can you legitimately complete that class? How will you be able to complete assignments, test, projects, or even participate in class? Knowledge of your school and city is important, because how do you know how to get to school or even class? Will you be able to get home by using local transportation if you use it?

Furthermore anything can get finished. Anything can get finished with hard work and important information. Sometimes we can't complete everything alone. Sometimes it is like you need someone to back you up and support you. That is when you will need help. There is a point of time someone will need help. Anywhere you look around the city there is help when we don't even notice. But do we help people when we asked? I mean come on sometimes we can't help because of the time or we are exhausted from doing something a little to much. Sometimes we don't even do it because we just don't feel like it. Students are learning at school by their teachers. Teachers are helping the students prepare for college. Sometimes teachers need our help and most of us believe teachers do not need help but they really do. We need help from our parents. Then there are times our parents need help.

In conclusion anything can be completed with hard work, proper uses of time, and most importantly guidance. This is the reason why I will graduate from Constitution High School in 2012.

Why do I support Barack Obama?

What Barack Obama has that John McCain doesn't is that Obama knows what the people want. Actually he knows what the people deserve. Barack Obama has a confident, wise attitude when it comes to conflicts the United States is facing today. One of the most important issues we are facing today is the economy. The economy has effected millions of citizens living in the United States. How? Gas prices have been raised to an all-time high. The effects from high gas prices have given people less money to spend which is hurting our economy. Food prices have gone up from gas prices. When there is less consumption of food items being purchased. Food prices will be raised in order to probably pay off debts that haven't been paid or help the store not shut down due to lack of business. Right now here in the South Eastern Pennsylvania the highest gas price for regular is $4.09. Barack Obama will spark our economy to reach the top again by cutting income taxes by $1,000 for working families to offset the payroll tax they pay. Barack Obama wants to eliminateIncome Taxes for Seniors Making Less than $50,000. Barack Obama will eliminate income taxation for all seniors making less than $50,000 per year. This proposal will eliminate income taxes for 7 million seniors and provide these seniors with an average savings of $1,400 each year. Under the Obama-Biden plan, 27 million American seniors will also not need to file an income tax return. On the other John McCain will be telling oil producing countries and oil speculators that our dependence on foreign oil will come to an end. The effect of this will lower prices at the pump. What everyone knows is that most of our oil comes from countries. For example Saudi Arabia is one of the countries. The point is that John McCain wants to make us pay more to help the world while they sit back and wait. In a different world Barack Obama wants to take action by helping us pay less instead of more. The point is that Barack Obama wants to help each one of us by listening to us. Then John McCain just wants to help George Bush finish what he started. This is why I suport Barack Obama because we need to take another path to reach success.

In ten years, I will be...

Ten years from now I would like to be one of these people. I would like to be a Septa engineer or bus driver, a referee for a professional wrestling company such as WWE known as World Wrestling Entertainment or TNA known as Total Nonstop Action. If I don't become a Referee for a profession wrestling company, I would like to be a professional wrestler for the WWE or TNA. If I don't become a referee or wrestler then I would like to be an announcer for WWE or TNA . If I don't work with Septa or the professional wrestling industry, I would like to become a professional football or baseball player. I have been interested in these futures for a long & short time. I have been always been interested for working with Septa at a young age but never knew exactly why I would have a stint with Septa. Maybe because of the places each bus, train, or trolley could take you. I have been interested for working with a professional wresting industry since 2006 when I first watched wrestling. If those two aspirations didn't would work then I would like to become a professional athlete.
